Lorraine and Art—children, parents, grandparents, and best friends who have walked side-by-side for nearly 60 years—look back on their relationship as they reflect on growing up, navigating life, finding joy, and discovering true love.
When I look at my grandparents, I see their love. From the way they smile through life, savor the little moments, and give thanks for their blessings, I know that what they experience is something truly special. Throughout the 60 years of their lives together, from youth to adulthood — getting married, raising children, and becoming grandparents — they only grew in their love for one another.
I wanted to make this film to honor my grandparents and all they have built together. Time passes by so quickly, that it is important every once in a while to linger and spend a moment reflecting on life's great journey. That is the intent of this film—to exemplify the act of reminiscing, making memories, and celebrating milestones. As my shoes filled the roles of both filmmaker and grandchild, I wanted to learn new stories and wisdom from my grandparents and translate these sentiments into a creation that could become a living memory itself — for them, my family, and future generations to come.
Reminiscing is a short documentary film that blends a historical recounting and a personal reflection, exploring the relationship of my grandparents as they reminisce on their life together, the importance of family, and the special love they share. I am forever grateful for my own journey in making this film. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I know that in the future when I look back on my own life memories, this one is sure to make me smile.
